6th Annual Research Symposium

As a Dean of Students, it is always a joy to witness growth and achievement among students. Albizu University’s 6th Annual South Florida Student Research Symposium, hosted virtually on June 11, 2022, from 10 am-1 pm was an excellent example of growth student scholars. This year we are pleased to have had participants not only from Albizu University, but also from Florida International University, Nova Southeastern University, and the University of Panama, and one submission was in conjunction with researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Events such as this one promote the professional development of students through the preparation and presentation of scholarly work by students and support growth as students are moved out of their comfort zones to practice what they are learning in and out of the classroom. This is of particular importance to me because it was as a graduate student that I learned to enjoy research and writing. Had I not had these opportunities with professors and mentors, I would not be in academia today. I encourage any of you reading to join us next year for our 7th Annual Student Research Symposium; begin planning your topic now.

At this year’s symposium, there were 11 presentations of which 3 were granted awards for excellence in scholarship (see below). Special thanks to Dr. Amanda Giust for collaborating with the Office of Student Affairs and Student Council in organizing and hosting this special event. I also want to congratulate Rita Rivera for her outstanding keynote address and appreciate all the faculty who sponsored student submissions. If you have any questions about next year’s event, please reach out to the Student Affairs Office at dosa@albizu.edu – we are here to serve you.

Congratulations to all our student researchers, we are very proud of you!

Your Dean of Student Affairs,

Dr. Floralba Arbelo
